2010 PBBA Finals

By Kaitlyn Lee Driscoll

Clemson, SC, January 22nd & 23rd, 2010 – Recently, the top bulls from the 2009 Professional Bucking Bull Association (PBBA) season met in Clemson, SC for the 2009 PBBA finals. Stock contractors spanning from Ohio to Florida hauled their bulls to compete against one another for numerous prestigious titles. These first-rate PBBA bulls were matched up against the top 20 bull riders from the NBR Series along with the number one and number two cowboy from the NBRA, SSBR, Rafter K series, Carousel Farms series, and the IBR.

After two nights of intense competition, the PBBA Finals Champion #D54 High Noon (of Elrod & Elrod) scored a total of 177.50 points and earned his owners Donna and Dell Elrod a Bob Berg PBBA finals champion buckle and a hefty check. Rob and Kayla Melton’s bull #44 Mr. Woodcock was the reserve champion bull of the finals. Both the Elrod’s and the Melton’s won feed supplement and distress, compliments of Two Bulls in Duncan, Oklahoma. Rafter C Bulls’ #20 Johnny Ringo placed 3rd while Bobby Bowman’s #380 Jocko and Melton/Smith/Watson’s bull #46 Loaded finished 4th and 5th,  respectively.

The PBBA winner of the High Point Bull of the year award and a Bob Berg buckle was Jason Roberts’ #412 Short Notice. Finishing close behind was #D54 High Noon of Elrod & Elrod. Rounding out the top five was #669 Brown Mule from Clay Ellison & Will John Simpson, Justin Cornwell’s #207 Hang Em High, and Lore Kerr’s #515 Iron Broke.

The bulls weren’t the only ones receiving winnings that weekend. Kevin "Rooster" McKeeman was named the 2009 NBR Series Champion Bull Rider. Kevin represented the SSBR at the PBBA Finals in Clemson, and he was awarded the Hennessy Custom Saddle, Bob Berg Buckle, and a check for his impressive rides. Jay Miller of Liberty, SC won the NBR Series Finals along with a Bob Berg buckle and check. Tracy Phillips was named the winner of the NBR Series barrel racing average after a first place finish Friday night and a second place run on Saturday. She also received a Bob Berg champion buckle. The winner of a new set of Cooper Tires sponsored by Cooper tires was Kelly Clem, from Oakwood, IL. He burned up more rubber than anyone running up & down the road to PBBA events! Finally, Jason Roberts of Jason Roberts Rodeo Company was presented with a custom PBBA stock trailer sponsored by Bill Black Featherlite, in commemoration of his recognition as the 2009 PBBA Producer of the Year, a title he defended from 2008.

The PBBA had a very successful finals and a successful season overall. Without excellent producers and incredibly generous sponsors, the PBBA would not have been able to put on so many top-notch events. The PBBA Finals was produced by Ernie Treadway and Brian Hope, and it was sponsored by HnH News, Cooper Tires, WW Equipment, Wrangler, Two Bulls, Twisted X Boots, & Bob Berg Design. We extend a gracious thanks to our producers and sponsors who were there all year long and helped round out a great season!

The PBBA sanctions open competitions for bulls of any age and pedigree.  Results from previous seasons as well as the schedule of events for 2010 will be posted on the PBBA web site at www.pbbanow.com, in HnH news, and broadcasted in a number of other publications.
