On February 11-12, 2011, the top stock contractors of the Professional Buck Bull Association (PBBA) gathered at the JB Hunt Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina for the 2010 Open Bull finals. With over 30 of the East Coast’s best bucking bulls, JB Hunt Arena’s back pens were packed with a rank pen of bulls that the cowboys of the NBR were anxious to ride. Coming into the finals the top 5 bulls were nearly neck and neck, with High Noon of Elrod Bucking Bulls leading the way. Following were Black Belt of Dale Cox Bucking Bulls, Loaded of Melton/Watson/Smith, and Blue Alien also of Dale Cox Bucking Bulls in fifth.
After the Brown Family Band, featuring the new hit duo Erin Elizabeth, rocked the arena the lights dimmed and the show began! With a tough crew of NBR cowboys and a rank pen of bulls the final event would prove to be an exciting one for contestants and fans alike. Throughout the finals, which were televised live via a webcast by www.makin8.com and www.buckersnow.com, the packed crowd witnessed some of the finest bulls performing at their peak. Although only one could claim Bucking Bull of the Finals. That Bull was Loaded Gun owned by Rob Melton of Rocking R Bull Group, with a combined nightly score of 175.25. In second place was Ernie Treadway’s Whammer with a score of 174.00. With the judges’ scores tight, third and fourth place was a close call. High Noon of Elrod Bucking Bulls, also the high point bull of the year, took third with 173.75. Following High Noon was Rocking R Bull Group’s Neon Ghost bringing in a score of 173.50. In fifth place was Yellow Dog of WW Bucking Bulls of with a combined score of 173.25.
During the 2010 season many stock contractors had proved the quality of their livestock. One such contractor is Dale Cox, who was the 2010 PBBA Stock Contractor of the Year, Cox brought numerous outstanding bulls to many PBBA events. He was rewarded with bragging rights, an amazing Bob Berg buckle and a decked out Bill Black Featherlite trailer. Also at the finals once again was 13 Homer, a Thunder Run Ranch Bull owned by Mike Porter, who is the only bull to qualify for all four consecutive PBBA finals. Also having a successful year was Rob Melton of the Rocking R Bull Group who took home the buckle for Stock Contractor of the Finals.
Taking place at the same time was the 2010 National Bull Riders (NBR) Finals. With many experienced riders matched up against a tough pen of bulls, it turned out to be an exciting two nights. The NBR Finals ended with Brandon Chambers winning the 2010 NBR Champion Bull Rider Berg buckle and custom made Hennessey saddle. John Garrett took home the Stock Contractor of the Year buckle. Another contractor that had a good weekend was Bobby Bowman. Bobby’s bull Jocko landed him the 2010 NBR Bull of the Year buckle. After a busy and eventful season for the NBR bull riders the finals and their 2010 season ended the year with a bang.
The PBBA was excited to have another successful year and thank everyone who helped make it so great. The 2010 season could not have happened without all of the contractors, participants, judges, bull fighters, spectators, back pen workers, specialty acts, announcers, sponsors, producers, and secretaries.
